Turnbull Bay... An Easy Choice

People have a variety of criteria when looking for a new home, but for Al Shields the house wasn't as important as the location. Al had always wanted to live on a golf course, and after spending countless Sundays playing at Turnbull Bay the location was an easy choice.

Al Shields and his wife moved to Turnbull Bay three years ago after his retirement from the 3M Corporation. "We thought of New Smyrna Beach as the unadvertised secret of Florida," said Shields. "It has one of the most gorgeous beaches in all of Florida, and with direct access to the Turnbull Bay golf course, our decision was easy."

Shields admits they purchased their home "pretty much because of the golf course." And they have not been disappointed with their decision.

"Turnbull Bay is just a great golf course," said Shields. "There are ponds on or along almost every hole. It really makes for an interesting course." Turnbull Bay developers have gone to great lengths to preserve the natural setting of Turnbull Bay, and all the residents appreciate their efforts. "Anytime you can leave things natural it's good," said Shields. "If you plow down all the trees our future generations won't have what we have. That would be a shame."

The abundant wildlife is one of many factors that make the course distinctive from others. "I have seen all sorts of wildlife such as turkeys, raccoons, armadillos, eagles, osprey, wild boars, alligators, and herons. It makes for a great golf experience."

"On top of enjoying the course, we really enjoy the attitude of the people who work here. All the employees, from the pro shop to the snack bar, are very friendly. They know your name and make you feel welcome. We just love it here."
